Science & Engineering

In order to help push the boundaries of innovation and research, scientists and engineers at AS&T Defense Systems have pioneered the development of state-of-the-art sensors and detectors that enable forces to go beyond their physical senses.

AS&T Defense Systems is setting the standard for excellence in innovation, research and development. Our work on sensor fusion enables the merging and blending of data from multiple sensors and the building of a complete and enhanced situational awareness environment.

We are also working on the next-generation of the micro-channel plates sensor technology, used for ultra-sensitive radiation detection, with the goal to optimize the production process by making it less labor intensive, easier to customize and inexpensive to fabricate. Similarly, we are working on sensors that can observe signals that are extremely small, faint, or far away.

Complex Challenges

The scientists at AS&T Defense Systems are involved in several large-scale simulation and machine learning projects. Our threat experts understand the goals of the adversaries, and are continually developing resilience strategies and trying to identify areas of vulnerability. A key focus area is the study of small Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) detection and the risk for potential incidents. To address the rising rate of concerns and protect the public and critical infrastructure, law enforcement agencies need better tools to detect and identify UAS drones.

One way the scientists at AS&T Defense Systems are approaching this challenge is through machine learning. This technique allows computer systems to learn automatically by using patterns identified in the data to improve searches, make predictions and take preventive actions.
